Almasii, in Survival Skills, talks about struggling with his identity in a white world. The couch represents his observant conscious attitude; he sits on the couch and observes the world around him.

Most of the video was also filmed in front of British colonial monuments and the Cathedral that were built during the colonisation of Grahamstown in the 1800’s adding to theme of being a ‘black man in a white world’.

Survival Skills as a song and as a concept is Almasii’s way of critiquing the society that he lives in and is forced to be a part of. His lyrics also describe his experiences with his identity and spirituality
